Access audits
An access audit is an assessment of the services delivered from an environment, whether it is an office block, a mobile library or country park. The audit will highlight any potential barriers that disabled people may face when trying to access the services on offer. The audit is undertaken as a sequential journey through the building/environment and will assess;
- external approaches and car parking
- entrances
- reception areas
- internal and vertical circulation
- WC facilities
- internal surface finishes and wayfinding
- lighting and acoustics
- means of escape
- building maintenance and management issues
Following the on-site assessment, a list of recommendations is compiled so that an action plan or strategy of improvement works can be developed as the next stage. Recommendations can be prioritised into short, medium and long term solutions or other criteria you may have.
