Design appraisals
Projects for new buildings, extensions or major refurbishments often require assessment at the design stage to ensure that inclusive design has been achieved. Designers who work to the Building Regulations alone will not meet the requirements of the DDA.
We can work as part of the design term and review project drawings and specifications at key stages to ensure the final building or environment will meet the relevant standards. We have extensive experience of working with construction professionals and advising on the technical requirements of access standards. As well as the design phase, we also offer ongoing advice throughout the construction phase of projects and can inspect following practical completion.
Access Statements are now a commonplace
requirement at planning and Building Regulation stages. Access statements outline
the design philosophy of the scheme in relation to access issues and are a
good way to prove that inclusive design principles have been followed. We can
develop access statements in conjunction with the design team or review and
develop existing drafts
