Design Appraisals & Access Statements

We have significant experience working with design and construction professionals advising on the technical requirements of access standards. Inclusive design appraisals and access statements are a requirement for new build projects, extensions and major refurbishments. We work as part of the design team and evaluate proposed projects against national inclusive design standards and best practice. Access statements record the inclusive design principles and standards used as well as the key access features of the project. We prepare access statements at key stages including: outline proposals, planning, building regulations and occupancy (RIBA Stages C, D, F & K).

Typically on a large project access consultancy services would include:

• Initial site visit and inclusive design appraisal
• Detailed inclusive design appraisal
• Ongoing inclusive design advice and review of design changes
• Design team meetings
• Liaison with Building Control Inspectors and Conservation Officers
• Preparation of Access Statements
• Site visits during construction works
• Completion inspection and sign off

However we can provide any of the above on an ad-hoc basis as the project requires.
